Grapevine well-represented on all-district squad

The Grapevine baseball team named numerous players to the 6-5A All-District squad this season following a trip to the postseason in its new classification.

The Mustangs had 10 players named to the team overall, including the District MVP Antonio Lima and Newcomer of the Year Conner Neuman.

Pitcher David Ash and Shortstop Nick Evarts were both named to the first team all-district squad, while teammates Ryan Dewillis and Evan Fink both earned second-team honors.

Josh Slezak, Tanner Gibson, Justin Roach and Beau Buesing were all selected to the second team.

Grapevine finished second in District 6-5A this season and advanced to the area round of the playoffs.

Colleyville Heritage has three players earn all-district honors

The Colleyville Heritage baseball team came up a bit short in its bid for a playoff spot this season, but was able to name three players to the All-District squad.

Griffin Tolle was selected as the district Defensive MVP for the Panthers.

Second baseman Alex Alvarenga earned first team All-District honors for Colleyville and teammate Tyler Merrick was selected to the team as a pitcher.

Carroll baseball team names several players to all-district team

The Carroll baseball team was rewarded for its long playoff run this season with six places on the 7-6A all-district team, all of whom were first-team selections.

Casey Combs was selected at first base, while Nic Motley earned honors at catcher for the Dragons.

Teammates Zach Farrar and Eric Cole earned honors at designated hitter and outfield respectively, and Matt Canterino and Eric Cramer were both named first team all-district pitchers for Carroll.

The Dragons wrapped up the regular season with a third-place finish in district competition.

They reached the regional semifinals before losing to Arlington Martin.

Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage earns first regulation victory of season

The Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage varsity hockey team picked up its first regulation victory of the summer season on Thursday night, defeating Richardson/Rockwall by a score of 7-4 at the Miller Arena in Farmer's Branch.

Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage have won two overtime games in the summer.

After trailing 1-0 early in the first period, Parker Mangone answered with an unassisted goal to tie the game up for Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage.

Richardson/Rockwall regained the lead, but then Thomas Demers scored a pair of goals for Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage to put the varsity team up for the first time in the game with 5:09 left in the first.

Landon Huber earned assists on both of Demer’ goals.

Richardson/Rockwall scored once more before the period was out, and the game was tied 3-3 heading into the second period.

Demers regained the lead for Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage on an unassisted goal early in the second period, and Daniel Detwiler extended the lead for the varsity team to two on assists from Alex Hixson and Newman Magness to score the goal early in the third.

Richardson/Rockwall closed the gap to one early in the third period, but Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage pulled away with two unanswered goals from Demers and Detwiler to earn the victory.

Bryce Hayes, Matthew Phillips and Chris Duncan all earned assists on the Demers and Detwiler goals.

Demers scored four goals in the game for Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage.
