Longtime Carroll trustee Craig Rothmeier recently stepped down from Place 1 to focus on impacting public education at the state level and on other volunteer roles.
Rothmeier, first elected in 2005, resigned in late May. Two years remain in the current term.
“I’d like to focus more on what’s going on in Austin and in the courts and be a more productive advocate,” Rothmeier said. “The district is in good hands, so it was a good time for me to make that move.”
He also wants to devote more time to the Southlake Miracle League as the group’s president.

At the June 1 board meeting, trustees opted to ask interested residents to apply and provide information on their background, qualifications and volunteer positions in Carroll schools. The district plans to interview top applicants, with the goal of selecting someone to fill Place 1 until next May’s election.
Julie Thannum, assistant superintendent for board and community relations, said she received 20 applications from CISD community members.
Trustees were to discuss the vacancy and possibly take action at Monday night’s board meeting, which occurred after press time.
