Police want to return cremated pet’s remains to its rightful family near Fort Worth
Police want to return a cedar box containing the ashes of Sinjin, a pet who was cremated almost 10 years ago, but they need help finding the family.
A post on the police department’s Facebook page described how a concerned citizen found the box containing a bag with a powdery substance inside.
The person thought it was contraband. But it appears to be the cremated remains of a pet named Sinjin, police said. The box was found near the water tower in the High Point area of Haltom City.
“Check around and see what y’all might know. We’d really like to get these remains back to the family they belong to if possible,” officer Dusty Simmons wrote on Facebook.
A card inside the box said, “The Turner family,” but police said there isn’t a family with that last name in the area where the box was found. The box also has an engraved name plate that says “Sinjin.”
Simmons said in an email to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that he is still searching for the animal’s owner.
“I’m monitoring the Facebook post and following up with leads and suggestions,” Simmons said.
“Today I even sifted through the remains looking for a metal tag that some companies put inside the ashes with no luck… Of all the property we’ve had brought to us to reunite with owners over my 13 years, this is one I really want to see through,” Simmons said.
According to the website behind the name.org, Sinjin is of Hebrew origin meaning God is gracious.
Simmons’ Facebook post drew many comments and suggestions encouraging him to reach out to veterinarians, pet cemeteries and crematories.
