Fort Worth-area officer breaks his arm, shoots man in leg during arrest, police say
A suspect was shot by Bedford police early Wednesday after he advanced on an officer following a crash, authorities said.
The suspect suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, Bedford police said.
A Bedford police officer suffered a broken arm while arresting the suspect, said Bedford police Lt. Mike Hager on Wednesday morning.
No other injuries were reported.
The incident began about 2 a.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of Wade Drive in Bedford when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle.
The vehicle drove off and was seen again in the 1100 block of Annette Drive.
Minutes later, the suspect crashed his vehicle in the 1000 block of Circle Lane in Bedford, police said.
“The suspect got out of the vehicle and advanced toward the officer,” Hager said.
The suspect told the officer he had a weapon and motioned with his hand behind his back to indicate that, according to WFAA-TV.
The officer shot the suspect after he threatened to harm the officer and didn’t comply with commands to stop, police said. After being shot in the leg, the suspect ran and was taken down by the officer, who broke his arm during the struggle, police said.
Police have not said if a weapon was recovered.
The officer and the suspect were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect was then taken to jail.
The name of the suspect has not been released.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
