Several community events are on the schedule for this weekend in Northeast Tarrant County.

Keller Reads! One Book, One City!

The Keller Public Library is hosting two events with Putlizer Prize-winning author Richard Russo for its fourth annual Keller Reads! One Book, One City! program.

Russo, a novelist, short story writer, screenwriter and teacher, will visit Keller on Friday and discuss “Empire Falls,” his best-selling, prize-winning 2001 novel, at the library from 3-4 p.m. with the public. Fans can also buy advance ticjets for “An Evening with Richard Russo at Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club” for dinner, remarks and book signings for $35 each at 6 p.m. Friday. For more information, visit

Showcase in the Square

Folks can celebrate Flag Day with free brass, percussion, drumline and color guard performances at Southlake Town Square.

“Showcase in the Square” will run from 7-9 p.m. on June 14 at the Rustin Park Pavilion, where the Crossmen World Class Drum & Bugle Corps will be featured.

Taste of Dallas

Taste of Dallas, a culinary event featuring more than 70 restaurants, cooking competitions, a culinary and exhibitor marketplace and morewill be held at 10:30 a.m. June 13 at the Colleyville Senior Center at 2512 Glade Rd. For information call 817-503-1195.

Mad science

Mad Science, Sounds like Science, a program illustrating complex ideas about sound and how ordinary objects are transformed, when trash bags become bagpipes and buckets become sound amplifiers will take the stage at 2 p.m. June 16 at the Colleyville Public Library at 110 Main St.

Take a spin

Lone Star Spinners Yo-Yo Club, will take a spin from 1-3 p.m. June 13 in the Children’s Program Room at the Grapevine Public Library at 1201 Municipal Way.

The free event that is open to everyone will be taught by yo-yo champs Dale and Valerie Oliver of Spintastics. All supplies including yo-yos, trick tops and diabolos are provided.
