North Richland Hills getting its first hotel in 20 years
North Richland Hills hasn’t seen a new hotel in over 20 years, but that is about to change.
Construction is expected to begin next summer on an extended stay TownePlace Suites at 9030 Grand Ave. The Marriott hotel will feature 120 rooms, a heated pool and a fitness center on two acres.
The hotel will be within walking distance of stores, restaurants and other amenities such as the NYTEX SportsCenter, Grand Hall at NRH Centre, the North Richland Hills Library and the BISD Fine Arts/Athletic Complex.
Sanjiv Melwani of Cromwell Hospitality originally proposed building the hotel ext to Walker Creek Elementary, but it drew opposition from parents who did not want a hotel next to the school.
Mayor Oscar Trevino thanked Melwani during a recent meeting for listening to residents’ concerns.
Hunter Hayes, who spoke on behalf of several homeowners in the Home Town development, said the hotel should encourage more tenants to lease at a nearby shopping center.
Melwani also built the Hilton Garden Inn, which is connected to the Hurst Conference Center.
Besides the hotel, new homes and apartments are also coming Home Town, said development director Clayton Comstock.
