Man goes missing in Grapevine Lake after a tubing accident, fire officials say

A man went missing after falling out of a tube in Grapevine Lake on Saturday morning, according to the Grapevine Fire Department.

Rescue workers searched for him on Saturday and again on Sunday using sonar technology, according to Grapevine Fire Chief Darrell Brown.

"We don't really have a good last-seen point at this time," said Brown. "So we're using sonar today just like we did yesterday until it turns dark tonight."

The man in his mid-20s went missing at about 10:40 a.m. on Saturday when his tube disconnected from a boat, according to Brown.

"A group of folks on a boat were having a good time yesterday and were pulling a man on a tube behind the boat," said Brown. "When the tube disconnected, the man was in the water in distress and went under and didn't resurface, from what we were told."

The man was not wearing a life jacket and the boat could not get to him in time, according to a news release from the Grapevine Fire Department.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife game warden spent a lot of time searching the west end of the lake Saturday and Sunday with sonar grid searches, to no avail, the news release said.

The search will resume on Monday morning, concentrating on surface and shoreline searches. The game warden has been in contact with the man's family as the search for him continues, authorities said.
