Stephen Herrera's job Sunday morning was to deliver medications to a hospice patient.

He never made it back home.

Herrera was killed Sunday morning when, police say, a suspected drunken driver going the wrong way on Texas 121 crashed into Herrera's vehicle, killing the 38-year-old Fort Worth man.

Family member Matt King said Herrera worked as a courier delivering medications to hospice patients at all hours. He didn't know if Herrera had made his delivery when he was killed Sunday. Matt King's sister has been Herrera's long-time companion

"He was so outgoing," said King from Minnesota in a Wednesday telephone interview. King and his wife, Wendi, were traveling to Texas Wednesday for Herrera's funeral.

Wendi King said Herrera had two teenaged children from a previous marriage.

"He adored his two kids," Wendi King said Wednesday. "He did everything for them."

Police believe a motorist was intoxicated when he began going southbound in the northbound lanes of Texas 121 about 4 a.m. Sunday near Grapevine Mills mall.

The wrong-way driver, identified as Derrick Lockhart, 37, of DeSoto, crashed head-on with another vehicle, killing Herrera and injuring someone who was in a third vehicle.

Lockhart was treated and released from Baylor Scott & White Medical Center and taken into custody.

He faces charges of intoxication manslaughter.

He was released late Monday after posting $5,000 bond.

A funeral service for Herrera is at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Greenwood Funeral Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Road in Fort Worth. A viewing is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Greenwood Funeral Home.

A gofundme account has been established to help Herrera's family with funeral expenses.
