Watauga police question ‘person of interest’ in attempted abduction

Police on Friday were questioning a man they called a “person of interest” in the attempted abduction this week of an 11-year-old girl.

The man, who was not identified, was arrested on unrelated warrants issued in another town, said Sgt. Jason Babcock, a police spokesman.

The girl told police that a man forced her into his vehicle as she walked home from school in the 6100 block of Nelson Terrace about 3:20 p.m. Monday, according to a news release. The girl said she broke free and ran to her home, the release said.

In the struggle, she got a broken tooth and injured lip and was taken to a hospital where she was treated and released, Babcock said.

The man in custody will not be identified until detectives get further along in their investigation, Babcock said. A vehicle possibly connected to the abduction was impounded, he said.
