One-year-old drowns in bathtub; police investigating

Police were investigating a toddler's drowning late Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responded to an apartment in the 1700 block of Soto Grande Boulevard and found an unresponsive 1-year-old girl in a bathtub, according to a Hurst Police Department news release.

Riley Maple had been bathing with her 2-year-old sister when the parent removed the drain plug and the older sibling. Moments later the parent returned to the bath and found Riley in the now-empty tub, according to police.

Paramedics gave Riley cardiopulmonary resuscitation and took her to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless-Bedford, where she was pronounced dead at about 4:15 p.m.
