The Grapevine Fire and Police Departments held their annual Grapevine Police vs. Fire Softball Challenge at 7 p.m. April 11 at Oak Grove Park.

The fire department’s Smoke Eaters defeated the police department’s Watchmen 11-10.

Last year the winning team was the Watchmen, who took home a trophy and bragging rights for one year. The Watchmen were thrilled to reclaim it — having won it the first year and lost it the next three.

Admission was free, but donations were accepted during the event, which featured raffle items and silent auction items.

A joint police and fire color guard presented the flag while 9-year-old Peyton Lain sang the National Anthem, which she has done at the event since she was four.

Proceeds benefit the Grapevine Shield Foundation. Established in 2008, The Grapevine Shield Foundation provides assistance to Grapevine police officers and firefighters and their families, who are injured or killed in the line of duty.
