Affidavit: Irving teacher had sex with student in her car

A MacArthur High School math teacher had sex with a student in the back seat of her car on consecutive nights in January outside a home in Dallas, according to an affidavit obtained Tuesday by the Star-Telegram.

A MacArthur sophomore told a school resource officer that he had sex with Kaitlyn Granado, 24, on Jan. 18 and 19 in front of a home in the 800 block of Keeneland Court in Dallas, the affidavit says.

The student, who is not being identified because he is a juvenile, was interviewed March 24, a few days after Granado was arrested the first time and accused of having a relationship with a different student last year.

She was released from jail in March after posting bail and was placed on paid administrative leave.

She was arrested Monday in the new case and was booked into the Irving Jail on a charge of having an improper relationship with a student. She was released on $50,000 bail.

The home where the affidavit says the January incident took place is across the street from Nancy J. Cochran Elementary School in west Dallas.

Irving school district officials were first alerted that police were investigating Granado on March 17 after the school resource officer was notified of a possible relationship between her and a 10th-grader.

In an interview at the Irving police station, Granado admitted to kissing the student in April 2014 and allowing him to rub her breasts, according to the arrest affidavit. In a March 18 interview with police, the student confirmed that the relationship with Granado occurred in April 2014, the affidavit says.

She was arrested March 19.

District officials said Tuesday that Granado remains on administrative leave.

“While privacy laws prevent us from sharing specific details, we can reassure our families that we took immediate and appropriate action,” said a statement from school officials obtained by the Star-Telegram. “Being on administrative leave prevents her from working with students and being present on any Irving ISD property.”
