Grapevine warns residents that it isn’t linked to app pitched in robocall
Residents are reporting getting robocalls from the city telling them to download a smartphone app called Netcinity.
But the calls are from a telemarketing firm, not from the city, said Grapevine spokeswoman Mona Burk, who added that several city employees had fielded concerns from residents about the calls.
“We send out alerts through our official social media channels, emails, newsletters and emergency alerts,” she said.
“We would never send anything through a telemarketing company,” Burk said. “The calls are very misleading. We are not affiliated with the company, and people may think we are trying to encourage them to download an app, and we’re not.”
Netcinity is an app that directs people to visit businesses that partner with the app.
