Sport: Baseball

Position: Center Field/Third Base

Class: Junior

His story: Childs is in his second year playing for the Trojans varsity squad. The center fielder has been playing baseball since he was three years old and has stuck with it because of his love of the sport. “I love the intensity of the game, and hopefully I’ll get to play in the big leagues one day,” he said. Childs is one of the leading hitters for the Trojans varsity, batting a torrid .447 with seven extra-base hits (three doubles, three triples, one home run) and has driven in 13 runs for coach Will Averitt’s squad. Childs says he prefers to play outfield while on defense because he has more time to react to the ball, and that he loves the thrill of chasing down fly balls. He once hit a go-ahead three-run home run against Haltom.

Fun fact: He loves to fish and play checkers, but Childs says if he wasn't playing baseball, he would like to work toward a career as a sports anchor.

He said: “I love playing for Coach Averitt; he's a great coach, and I have the best teammates in the world.”
