Trojans golf teams end season at district, look to build
Golf at Trinity recently wrapped up a successful season and is looking at a bright future.
The team is coming off the District 7-6A tournament, where the girls placed sixth out of nine teams while the boys were seventh out 11.
On the girls side, junior Rainey Greaner had a two-day total of 194, finishing 21st out of 53 possible participants. She should come back for a strong senior year.
Sophomore Tuesday Henry kept pace with Greaner, ending up in 26th place with a two-day score of 212, and is also expected to have a strong season next year.
“We will have five returning players next year and expect to be more competitive within our district,” coach Barry Fuller said.
Fuller is saddened that senior Julia Dezendorf won't be returning, but is looking forward to a great nucleus to the start of the 2015-2016 school year.
The Trinity boys team was led by senior Tristen Jimenez, who posted a season-best 76 during the opening round of the district tournament, and finished with a two-day total of 163. He finished 21st out of 65 golfers on the boys side. Max Cummings contributed a score of 172 and placed 26th.
“Our boys teams will miss the six seniors that graduate at the end of the school year,” Fuller said. “We have a promising group of sophomores, who are very determined to redeem themselves.”
Next year's team is expected to be led by sophomore Alex Vu and junior Luis Dayer, who will begin their second and third seasons respectively for the Trojan golf team.
Other team finishes this season include the girls placing eighth in the season-opening Girls Texan Shootout in September and coming in sixth at the Northwest Invitational in October. The boys finished eighth.
The boys team placed a season-high third during the Golf Links of Cleburne on March 6 and seventh in the Trinity Invitational at Texas Star on March 17. The girls placed eighth at Texas Star on March 18.
