Softball
The L.D. Bell softball team took an important step in securing a playoff berth with a 4-3, eight-inning victory against Coppell last Friday.
Coppell is tied for second place with Haltom in District 7-6A, while the Lady Blue Raiders are a game behind with a 3-3 district record entering this week's games.
The win helped Bell keep pace to earn the fourth playoff spot and keep some ground between it and Colleyville Heritage, which is 2-4 in district. Equally important for the Lady Raiders is that they rebounded from a 16-6 loss to Southlake Carroll last Tuesday.
Pitcher Ashley Robinson picked up the win, and first baseman Peyton Newman doubled for the Lady Raiders.
Bell will travel to Richland on Tuesday and host rival Trinity, which is still seeking its first win in district, at 7:15 p.m. Friday. See www.dfwvarsity.com for results.
Baseball
The Trojans baseball team continued to dominate, run-ruling L.D. Bell 11-0 last Friday in six innings, with Drew Johnson the winning pitcher. Reeder Mengwasser and Chase Averitt tripled and Cade Hutchinson, Riley King and Mark Geisel doubled for Trinity.
That completed a week-series sweep of the Trinity rival, as the Trojans defeated Bell 9-6 last Tuesday after the Blue Raiders had jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
The victories kept Trinity's unbeaten district record intact, as the team moves to 6-0 in 7-6A competition. Bell is still seeking its first district victory.
This Tuesday, the Trojans visit Southlake Carroll, which is uncharacteristically struggling at 1-3, and they host Carroll at 7 p.m. Friday. Only seven games remain in Trinity's season, including a non-district season finale May against Trophy Club Nelson.
The week for Bell holds presents a chance at picking up that first district win, as the team plays twice against Colleyville Heritage, which has only one victory in 7-6A. The Blue Raiders host Heritage on Tuesday and travel to Colleyville on Friday, with both games at 7 p.m.
