Carroll cancels Board of Trustee elections

Southlake Carroll will not have elections for its open board of trustee seats.

The Board of Trustees canceled its May 9 election after only one person filed for each of the two open positions.

“The reason that there are unopposed candidates in a school district such as ours is because the satisfaction of our community with the function of not just the board but primarily the administration,” trustee Read Ballew said.

Incumbent Ballew filed for Place 4 and Danny Gilpin filed for Place 5. Both will begin their terms May 18.

Not having an election saves the district $12,000.

GCISD Kindness Day celebrated district-wide

On Wednesday, campuses across the district celebrated GCISD Kindness Day.

While the district celebrates random acts of kindness in its schools year-round, this was a special day designated to bring attention to the positive impact even a small act of kindness can make and also to help gear up for the district-wide Rachel’s Challenge Rally on April 18.

In celebration of GCISD Kindness Day, students and staff across the district were encouraged to wear a Rachel’s Challenge shirt as a reminder to spread kindness throughout the day.
