The Carroll boys soccer team had a strong effort to open the playoffs his past weekend with South Grand Prairie, and coach Greg Oglesy said his team is playing at a level that gives him confidence moving forward.

Carroll will take on Flower Mound in its next game, and Oglesby said he knows his team will be in a for a tough game with the Jaguars.

“We got to watch them play their bi-district game against Byron Nelson, which they won,” Oglesby said. “Byron Nelson is a good team. Flower Mound is coming out of a tough district where they have played some very good teams. It's a great soccer district, and they are a very athletic team. It looks like it is going to be a pretty fast-paced game for us.”

Oglesby said that he was extremely pleased with the way his team played in their bi-district game against South Grand Prairie and said he was especially proud of the way his team executed.

Carroll defeated South Grand Prairie 1-0 in their bi-district game.

“The team performed brilliantly,” Oglesby said. “We had a good game plan, and I was really pleased with the way that they executed that game plan. I thought the difference in the game for us was heart and work rate, of which we had an abundance.”

Oglesby said he is not really sure where the team is confidence-wise, but said that his players do understand where they are in the postseason run and what is expected of them.

“I don't have a feeling really one way or the other about that,” Oglesby said. “I think that they know they played well, and I think they are pretty proud of each other for the effort they put forth. But I also think they realize that it does not get any easier each round you go. We just know that if we can perform like that, we’ve got a chance to win every game.”

Ricardo Becerra scored the Dragons’ lone goal of the game and Patrick Leal earned the shut out victory.

Oglesby said he had a number of strong efforts in the game against South Grand Prairie, but did not wish to mention any individually.

“Everybody played with such emotion and effort, that I almost hesitate to pick out somebody,” Oglesby said. “I thought that Chase Reynolds, our right back, had a real solid game, too. They weren't getting much down their left side, and a big part of that was his play. Alex Kluge also did a pretty good job throughout the night.”

Carroll will play Flower Mound at a time and date to be determined. See www.dfwvarsity.com for updates and results.
