Police report: Thieves steal 39 handguns from gun store next to Euless police station

Detectives continued their search last week for five suspects who stole 39 handguns from a gun shop next door to the police station.

Surveillance cameras captured the group backing up a white Ford F250 pickup early Saturday to Euless Guns and Ammo, 1200 W. Euless Boulevard, then breaking down the glass door.

The gun shop is just a few hundred feet from the front door of the Euless police station on W. Euless Boulevard.

“They next twisted a security cage that was behind the glass door enough where they could fit through it,” police Sgt. Scott Peterson said Wednesday in a telephone interview.

The thieves wearing hooded jackets rushed into the store. The suspects smashed display cases and stole 39 handguns, but they did not take any rifles or long guns, police said.

“They couldn’t get to those weapons,” Peterson said.

The group was in the store less than two minutes, police said.

Officers arrived within minutes of the alarm company’s call shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday.

No injuries were reported.

Police said they were not releasing the surveillance video.

Federal agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting in the investigation.

The last incident at the gun shop was in 2012 when a burglary broke into a storage facility and stole tools, according to police reports.
