Brendon Jean Payne, president of the Colleyville Area Chamber of Commerce, died Monday after suffering a heart attack the day before.
He was 47.
Payne joined the Chamber in December with 25 years of experience in chamber work. Before coming to Colleyville he served as the president/CEO of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce and executive director of the Northwest Tarrant Chamber in Lake Worth. His experience also included time as president of the Saginaw Area Chamber of Commerce.
“We are getting calls from chambers all over the state,” said Tom Smith, chairman of the Colleyville Chamber’s board of directors. “He was very much beloved throughout the chamber world.”

Payne was born Jan. 30, 1968, in Beaver, Okla.
Payne had said he believed in working with the city to encourage business growth, while at the same time helping businesses deal with the ongoing construction of Texas 26.
“Brendon Payne was just what the Colleyville Chamber needed,” Marty Wieder, Colleyville’s economic development director said in an email. “Brendon made it clear that he wanted the chamber to work closely with the city and that’s exactly what he did.”
Smith said Payne helped move the chamber in the right direction.
“Even though he was only with us for three months, he got us off to a great start,” Smith said. “Our plate is full thanks to his great leadership these past three months.”
Payne is survived by his mother, Vickie Julian Ratlaff Payne of Greenville, and a sister, Delina Payne Holoway of Burleson.
