Dragons looking forward to rematch vs. Colleyville Heritage
The Carroll boys soccer team is having a strong district season to this point, and coach Greg Oglesby said he is optimistic about where his team is positioned and how it is playing.
Carroll will take on Colleyville Heritage on Friday, and Oglesby said he knows that, just like the first encounter between the two teams, his team will have its hands full.
“I don't anticipate them doing much different than they did the first time around, because they have been playing well,” Oglesby said. “They played well that night. We are a bit of a different team now with Calvin (Herd) playing for us. I think that was our last loss. I think that our defense is tightened up and we are playing well.”
Colleyville Heritage defeated Carroll 2-0 in the first meeting between the two teams on Feb. 10.
Oglesby said that he has been very pleased with the progress his team has made to this point.
“I'm real pleased with where we are,” Oglesby said. “We're in third. We're just a couple of games out of the first and second spots. We played a great game against Coppell that ended in a 1-1 tie. That was a great result for us, going over to their place.”
While the inclement weather has affected the rhythm of some teams, Oglesby does not believe it has been that bad for Carroll.
“The weather doesn't really have that much of an impact on us,” Oglesby said this past weekend. “We still get to train because of our indoor facility. Next week will be tough, but I think that most teams will be playing three games, so it's not like we're at a disadvantage.”
Oglesby said that he has seen a couple of good things from his team to this point in the season as well as a couple of guys really step up for the Dragons.
“Our goalie, Patrick Leal, has been playing extremely well,” Oglesby said. “He played the game of his life against Coppell. The defense has tightened up a little bit. We moved a kid up from the junior varsity who has had a tremendous impact for us so far. He has scored three goals in four games, and just fit fight in seamlessly. His name is Calvin Herd.”
Oglesby said that Mason McGuire has also played very well at defender for the Dragons, and Corey Dotson.
Oglesby said, while there have been a lot of different games this season, he does not believe his team was affected by realignment in either a positive for negative way.
“We were in a good district, and this was a good district,” Oglesby said. “So I don't know if there was that much of a change. Some of the opponents are still the same, like Richland and Haltom. We are very familiar with them, so I don't really think that we were that affected by realignment.”
