Colleyville, Grapevine and Southlake city and school elections draw contenders
Area city and school district May 9 election filings closed at 5 p.m. Friday.
Here’s a roundup of who has filed for city and school board positions in Colleyville, Grapevine Southlake.
Colleyville council
There are two seats up for election, council member Place 5, currently occupied by Tom Hart — who has said he will not seek re-election — and council member Place 6, held by Mayor Pro Tem Mike Taylor.
Johnathan Blume, 39; Bobby Lindamood, a 43-year old business owner; and Mike Taylor, 62, incumbent and financial adviser, have filed for Place 6.
Landscape designer Nancy Coplen, 60, and consultant Elizabeth Zeitlin, 47, have filed for Place 5.
Grapevine
Positions on the ballot are for mayor, currently held by William D. Tate; council Place 1, currently held by Mayor Pro Tem C. Shane Wilbanks; and council Place 2, currently held by Councilwoman Sharron Spencer.
All three have filed for re-election, and only Wilbanks has a challenger.
They are: William D. Tate, 72, an attorney; Wilbanks, 72, retired; and Spencer, 66, retired. Challenging Wilbanks is Marc Blum, 52, a project manager.
Southlake
Both the mayor’s seat, held by John Terrell, and council Place 2, held by Carolyn Morris, are up for election.
The mayor’s seat will be contested by council members Laura Hill, a 57-year-old publisher, and Morris, a 73-year-old professional educator.
Former Planning and Zoning Commission member Shawn McCaskill, a 43-year-old attorney, and retiree Pamela Muller have filed for Place 2.
Because of Hill’s filing for mayor, John Huffman, a 31-year-old operations manager and attorney, has filed for the Place 5 seat.
Carroll schools
Trustee places 4 and 5 are up for election.
Read Ballew currently holds the Place 4 seat, and on the Place 5 seat is Erin Shoupp.
Ballew, a 54-year-old engineer, has filed for Place 4, and senior vice president of finance Danny Gilpin, 46, has filed for Place 5.
Grapevine-Colleyville schools
Positions up for election are for Place 1, currently held by Kimberley Davis, vice president; and Place 2, currently held by Becky St. John, secretary.
Mark Assaad, 44, of Grapevine, an engineer; Mindy McClure, 45, of Colleyville, a homemaker; and Kathleen Thompson, 38, of Grapevine, a writer, are seeking the post held by Davis, who did not seek re-election.
St. John, 45, of Grapevine, who co-owns a consulting company, is running against Jesse Hoffman, 33, of Grapevine, an attorney.
Voting
Early voting begins April 27 and the last day to early vote is May 5.
On election day, May 9, polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and voters must vote in the precinct in which they are registered. Precinct numbers are listed on the voter’s voter registration card.
Unofficial election day results will be posted on the Tarrant County Elections website after polls close.
