Colleyville closes part of Pleasant Run Road
The city has begun a project to renew a portion of Pleasant Run Road.
Last month, the city closed Pleasant Run Road from Church Street to Bogart Drive. The city aims to reconstruct the two-lane road and add a sidewalk, trail and drainage system.
“We’ve been doing a lot of intersection work,” City Engineer Jeremy Hutt said. “We haven’t done a street project of this magnitude in a few years.”
A portion of the road continues to be closed to through traffic, excluding businesses and residents who access their neighborhoods from the construction area.
Hutt said the project began with a grant to add a trail along the road to connect The Village to Church Street. The city realized that the current bar ditch prevented the installation of a trail and decided to change the drainage into an underground curb-and-gutter system, add the trail and reconstruct the road as well. With the improvements the city expects the road to have a 40- to 50-year life span.
“This was really the opportunity with the trail grant to address all the infrastructure needs in one project,” Hutt said.
The road closure will extend to Main and Church streets once storm drainage work is done. The city expects the closure to last about 270 days from the start of the project on Feb. 16. Hutt said the long closure was the best option.
Except for homes along Pleasant Run, including three subdivisions that have entryways from the road, all drivers must take alternate routes along Texas 26.
Hutt said the city has worked closely with the residents to gather feedback. That resulted in a 31-foot-wide roadway that can handle today’s traffic but does not expand onto homes.
The city also worked to save the roadway’s tree canopy.
“Ultimately it is going to be their street that they live on and drive on every day,” Hutt said.
