Colleyville Heritage Middle School choir to perform at the Texas Capitol
The Heritage Middle School Choir has been selected to perform in Austin on Wednesday during the 12th annual Arts Education Days at the Capitol.
Choir director Julie Ann Allen said more than 80 members of the elite a cappella choir will perform Come to the Music in the Capitol rotunda.
“We chose this song because it talks about music being a universal language,” Allen said.
The choir will represent secondary choral music for Texas public schools.
The Grapevine-Colleyville school district choir will come together with other fine arts groups from across the state to deliver information about Arts Education Days and the importance of arts to state legislators and the Texas Education Agency.
Students, who will be wearing black-and-white tuxedo outfits, also will perform at noon on the south steps of the Capitol building.
“We picked a fun arrangement of Buffalo Gals,” Allen said.
The students will be joined by other choirs, jazz bands, dance ensembles, theater performers and art students who have also been invited to feature their work.
Sponsored by the Texas Coalition for Quality Arts Education, Arts Education Days at the Capitol celebrate the importance of the arts and arts education.
Allen said the event is a high point in her 23 years teaching choir at the school.
“It’s the biggest thing we’ve done so far,” she said.
Eighth-graders Braden Wright, Carlee Miller, Emily Fortsch and Ben Carvajal said they are honored to have been chosen.
“I’m really proud,” said Emily, whose other interests are basketball and cheerleading.
