Trinity hires new football coach
The Hurst-Euless-Bedford school board unanimously approved the hiring of former offensive coordinator Chris Jensen as the new Trinity football coach in its meeting last Monday. Jensen replaces Steve Lineweaver, who retired in December after winning three UIL state championships in 15 seasons at Trinity.
Jensen, 47, was the Trojans’ offensive coordinator for the last 14 years. The Trinity coaching staff expressed strong support for Jensen, led by defensive coordinator Donald Tryon, who told Jensen that the rest of the coaching staff had discussed Lineweaver's retirement and wanted Jensen to take over as head coach.
Softball
The Trinity softball team kicks off its 2015 non-district schedule on Tuesday visiting Grapevine, a program that was moved down to Class 5A for the 2014-2015 school year. On Friday, the Lady Trojans travel to White Oak for a morning double-header.
Bell begins its season in the Mansfield Tournament on Saturday, facing a strong program in Trophy Club Byron Nelson at 4 p.m.
Last season, Trinity and Bell were the second- and third-place teams out of their former district, 6-5A, but this year they'll compete in the realigned District 7-6A, which retains last year's district champion Colleyville Heritage and adds perennial powers Coppell and Southlake Carroll.
Boys Soccer
The Trojans boys soccer team fell 3-0 to Coppell last Tuesday, but bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Richland last Friday. The Trojans have their bye date on Tuesday before facing a tough assignment on Friday, traveling to 6-1-3 Colleyville Heritage at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Bell continues to struggle and suffered a loss last week, 1-0 to Haltom on Tuesday, before its bye date last Friday. Up next for the Raiders are Southlake Carroll on Tuesday and visiting Coppell at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, possibly the toughest week on the Raiders' schedule.
