Police planned to file a DWI charge late Saturday against a driver who ran over a 10-year-old boy playing in an Arlington street and attempted to flee the scene.

Police said the boy was seriously injured and was taken to Arlington Medical Center, where staff decided to send the boy by medical helicopter to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth. His condition was not known.

“The female driver hit the child and tried to leave the scene,” said Arlington police spokesman Chris Cook. “Witnesses talked her into staying or would not let her leave.”

The driver of the Volvo was not identified because police had not finished booking her, Cook said.

Police were called about 8:15 p.m. to the 2600 block of Ozark Drive, where the accident occurred and where the driver was arrested.
