Flower Mound bakery’s anti-Trump July 4 post sparks backlash — and a sales boom
A bakery in Flower Mound went viral on social media for its anti-Trump Fourth of July post. The owner said that the backlash has increased business.
“We have been running our ovens virtually all day for two days straight. We are making five times as much as we would on a normal day,” said Haley Popp, owner of Hive Bakery in Flower Mound.
On June 30, the bakery posted on Facebook that it would remain open on July 4, adding that “We’ve never been more embarrassed of what America has become.”
“We’ll continue to fight for our rights, using freedom of speech and protest, which are honestly the most American things you can do. We’ll continue to use our voice with the hope that this fa$ci$t administration will crumble and democracy will be restored once more,” the post said. “There isn’t a lot to celebrate this weekend. We continue to mourn the great country we could’ve been. Come see us for a slice of momentary bliss.”
The Libs of TikTok, a right-wing X account, posted on July 6 that the bakery “hates conservatives and our country,” and that it would “be a shame if everyone in the area” saw the post.
This is not the first time the bakery has gone viral on social media. In 2025, Popp went viral after she made cookies picturing Episcopal Bishop of Washington Mariann Budde after she delivered a speech calling on President Donald Trump to show mercy for vulnerable groups.
The bakery rose to fame again after the assassination of political commentator Charlie Kirk in September, when she expressed her views on Kirk on a podcast.
Each time, Popp said, has helped grow her business. Following the Libs of TikTok post, the Hive Bakery Facebook account gained over 60,000 new followers.
“It’s honestly a blessing. They don’t understand that what they are doing is just giving us press. What they intend to do is ruin us, and what actually happens is that we grow our community,” Popp said.
