A 23-year-old man was arrested on Monday in connection to the 2025 collision that killed two cyclists in Denton, police said.

Eliseo Mauala was indicted by a Denton County grand jury on June 25 on two counts of collision involving death, Pilot Point police said in a news release.

The Denton County District Attorney’s Office issued two warrants for Mauala, and he was taken into custody by Pilot Point police officers Monday morning, according to the release.

Mauala was booked into the Denton County jail, police said.

Two cyclists killed in Dec 2025 crash

Andre Kocher, 60, and Scott Mages, 55, were training for an Ironman triathlon in December 2025, when they were struck from behind by Mauala, who was driving the pickup truck, the Star-Telegram previously reported.

Mauala was speeding the pickup truck and was not paying attention in front of him, according to a Texas Department of Transportation report.

Mages and Kocher were thrown from their bikes and carried further from the point of impact than the bicycles, DPS investigators wrote in the report. Both men were taken to area hospitals, where they later died.

Mauala continued to drive away from the scene after striking the cyclists, but returned before the responders arrived. He was unlicensed and refused to submit to drug and alcohol testing, investigators have said.
