A semitrailer driver died late on Tuesday in a crash and tanker explosion in Carrollton that shut down southbound Interstate-35E near the George Bush Turnpike.

The crash, in which no other vehicles were involved, occurred about 11 p.m., and police said the lanes will be closed until about 10:30 a.m., WFAA-TV reported.

Traffic is being diverted onto the George Bush Turnpike, according to the Lewisville Police Department, whose officers are assisting with traffic control.

Motorists should expect significant delays and seek alternate routes, police said.
