Two people who died in a Burleson house fire Sunday have been identified
Two people died at a hospital after firefighters found them in a garage while battling a house fire in Burleson early Sunday, officials said.
Firefighters responded to the structure fire about 12:30 a.m. in the 600 block of NW Douglas Street, the Burleson Fire Department said in a social media post.
When firefighters arrived, they observed heavy fire and smoke with flames coming through the roof. Firefighters began attacking the fire and searched the home in case anyone was inside, officials said.
More than 20 fire units from Burleson, Crowley, Fort Worth and CareFlite Ground EMS responded to the house fire, officials said.
The Crowley firefighters and a Burleson medic crew deployed a secondary fire attack line, officials said.
A neighbor told the battalion chief that residents might be inside the home. During the initial search of the living areas of the house, firefighters didn’t find anyone. As the search continued, they found the two people inside the garage, officials said.
The victims, who were both adults, were taken in critical condition to a nearby hospital, where they later died, officials said. Neighbors told KXAS-TV that a man with special needs and his mother lived in the house.
The Tarrant County Medical examiner’s office identified the victims as 68-year-old Jeri Weehunt Davis and 49-year-old Dustin Dwane Davis.
The fire was fully extinguished, and no other homes were damaged, officials said.
“Our deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with the families, neighbors and all who have been impacted by this tragic event,” the fire department said in the post.
The Burleson Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire with assistance from the Tarrant County Arson Task Force and Burleson police, officials said.
