Medical examiner identifies 2 people killed in crash on FM 730 in Azle

Two people were killed in a traffic crash in Parker County which shut down both southbound and northbound lanes of FM 730 South in Azle on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Azle police officers responded to the multi-vehicle crash in the 13000 block of FM 730.

According to Azle Police Chief Bennett Hall, a vehicle traveling northbound on FM 730 left its lane and crashed head-on with a southbound vehicle.

The driver of the southbound vehicle and a passenger in the northbound vehicle died at the scene, Hall said.

Two other people were taken to the hospital with significant injuries, and a fifth person also was being evaluated for injuries, Azle police said in a news release.

The two people who died were identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as 67-year-old Robert Anness and 73-year-old Johna Wicker.

A total of five vehicles were involved in the accident. The northbound driver hit two cars after veering into the southbound lanes, police said. And a result of the initial crash, two more vehicles collided with those cars, according to Hall.

WFAA-TV helicopter video of the scene showed at least three of the vehicles appeared to have significant damage.
