WATCH: Police help North Texas man find his missing blind pet pigeon, Kevin
Irving police officers helped a local North Texas business owner find his lost pet pigeon over the weekend.
The blind pigeon, named Kevin, accidentally got into the truck bed of a customer whose pickup had been inspected at the business earlier in the day. The customer unknowingly drove home with the bird.
The owner, who raises pigeons, has had Kevin for two years and asked officers close by for help to locate the missing bird.
Body-camera video posted on social media by Irving police shows the officers found Kevin the pigeon in the surprised customer’s pickup truck parked outside a home.
“We’ll admit, our officers didn’t have high hopes, but they still followed up, and lo and behold, Kevin was waiting to be rescued,” Irving police wrote in the post.
In a moment of humor, the police could be heard in the video asking if they should put a seat belt on the pigeon, and if Kevin was under arrest as they put him in the back of a police car and returned him to his owner.
“I’ve been taking care (of Kevin) for like two years already,” the grateful owner told the officers. “It’s like a child to me — and thank you guys so much.”
