Rally planned to support Johnson County sheriff accused of sexual harassment

Previous story: Supporters of Johnson County Sheriff Adam King, who faces criminal charges, planned to hold a rally at a Cleburne church Tuesday night.
Sheriff King was arrested by the Texas Rangers last week after he was indicted on two felony counts of retaliation against a witness and one misdemeanor count of abuse of office, the Star-Telegram previously reported. The charges stem from allegations that King sexually harassed female employees and then threatened the chief deputy to stay quiet about it.
The rally by his supporters was originally planned to be held outside Cleburne Bible Church at 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV. The event was moved to the conference hall because the church did not want to be affiliated with it, a church employee told the Star-Telegram.
King has been released from jail on $25,000 bond, according to court records.
King’s defense attorney could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.
King, a Republican, is serving his third term. He placed himself on administrative leave Thursday, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. Capt. Ben Arriola was appointed acting sheriff.
