A driver died after crashing a car into a tree in Grand Prairie early Tuesday morning, police said in a news release.

The fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Marshall Drive and SW 3rd Street, police said.

Police said the Nissan car was headed north on SW 3rd Street about 2:30 a.m. when it left the roadway and collided with a tree.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Traffic investigators believe speed may have been a factor in the crash, police said.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the person who died after the next of kin have been notified.
