Truck plunges off overpass, closing parts of Texas 121 in Grapevine, police say
Part of Texas 121 in Grapevine were closed for several hours Friday after a commercial vehicle plunged off an overpass, officials said.
The Police Department issued a traffic alert on Facebook around 9:40 a.m. The accident occurred between Texan Trail and the exit to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. All southbound lanes of Texas 121 in the area were closed, and traffic was being diverted to Texan Trail.
Two commercial vehicles collided Friday morning, and one fell over the bridge, police said in a Facebook post around 11:40 a.m. Both drivers were taken to local hospitals with potentially serious injuries.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area. Photos taken by Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV show a mangled white truck on the ground near the bridge’s support pillars.
The part of Texas 121 where the bridge was damaged was still closed as of 2 p.m., police said in an update on Facebook. There was no estimated time of when the repairs would be finished.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience today as our officers worked the scene,” Grapevine police said in the post. “Please continue to use patience and avoid the area while TXDOT completes their repairs.”
