A fiery car crash on Loop 820 left one driver dead and one injured Thursday evening, Haltom City police said.

About 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Haltom City first responders were called to the collision in the eastbound express lanes of Loop 820, where they found a Dodge Charger on fire, police said in a news release.

The driver of the Dodge Charger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Charger had hit the back of a trailer attached to a disabled work truck, according to the release.

The preliminary investigation found that the driver of the Charger, who police said was a man in his late 50s, was speeding and tried to change lanes, apparently unaware that the truck and trailer were stopped ahead of him. The man who died will be identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
