A passenger who was riding on the jet ski stayed at the scene to be interviewed by first responders, but the driver fled with a man in a car, according to a news release from Grapevine police and Texas Parks and Wildlife. While driving away, they hit another vehicle, police said.

Grapevine firefighters, police and Texas game wardens were called to the lake near Oak Grove Park about 5:20 p.m.

First responders pulled the kayaker out of the water and attempted live-saving measures. Moore had head injuries and died after being taken to the emergency room at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, authorities said.

Texas game wardens are leading the investigation of Moore’s death, while Grapevine police are investigating the subsequent hit-and-run car crash.
