Missing Irving girl who left her home to walk to party is found in Alabama, police say

A 12-year-old Irving girl who left her home on Sunday to walk to a birthday party nearby but never arrived was missing before she was located on Monday in Alabama, police said.

When she was found, Alison Ramirez-Lopez was accompanied by a boy 16 or younger, and Irving police said that an investigation was underway to determine whether a charge is warranted.

Police about 11 a.m. said that they were in the process of reuniting Alison with relatives.

The girl left her home in the 1000 block of Harlan Street about 10 a.m. on Feb. 9. Irving police were contacted about 11 p.m. about the missing child.

The Texas Department of Public Safety activated an Athena Alert in the case.

The Athena Alert is intended to bridge the gap between the time a child goes missing and the time a statewide Amber Alert is issued. Under the new law, local authorities can quickly activate a regional alert without verification of an abduction.
