Two interim teaching pastors at Southlake-based Gateway Church will continue to serve in their roles as church leaders continue to search for a new executive pastor, a Gateway spokesperson said.

The pastors, Max Lucado and Joakim Lundqvist, have been serving in the roles since last summer.

James Morris, the son of Gateway founder Robert Morris, was set to take over the church’s leadership after his father resigned in June following sexual abuse allegations against the elder Morris.

Four church elders were removed from their posts in November after a monthslong investigation found that they failed to disclose prior knowledge of the elder Morris’ conduct.

Later that month, a Gateway official announced in a video message to staff that the church was exploring layoffs in response to a 35-40% drop in congregational tithes.

The search for a new executive pastor is still underway, a Gateway spokesperson told the Star-Telegram. The spokesperson declined to elaborate on the progress of the search.
