Grand Prairie police are investigating a homicide after they found a 16-year-old gunshot victim in the street early Saturday, officials said in a statement.

Officers responded to the shooting call in the 2400 block of Silverado Trail at around 1:15 a.m. on Jan. 4 and found the wounded teen, who was taken to a hospital, police said. The 16-year-old died from his injuries in the emergency room at Medical City Arlington hospital, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Destiny Nowoghomwenma Eweka and ruled his death a homicide. Results of an autopsy are pending.

Any suspects fled prior to officers’ arrival, but based on evidence recovered at the scene, the victim was “engaged in high-risk activity” at the time of the shooting, police said.

Grand Prairie Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect, police said.
