A loaded gun was found inside a student’s backpack in a North Richland Hills charter school on Wednesday morning, Dec. 4, officials said.

A second-grader at International Leadership of Texas, 4131 Rufe Snow Drive, told their teacher about the gun, the school said in a statement.

The teacher immediately reported to the campus administration and the campus peace officer took possession of the backpack.

The officer confirmed that they found a gun loaded with one bullet. The student reported that their parent put the gun in their backpack, the school said.

“All students and staff are safe and are continuing with their day,” the school said.

North Richland Hills police were investigating at the school.

“The weapon was secured without incident, and no injuries to students or staff were reported,” a police spokesperson said.
