A man who was incarcerated at the Tarrant County Jail died Monday at a hospital after he told jail staff that he was not feeling well, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The 51-year-old inmate died at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Tuesday.

After he reported he was feeling sick, the man was examined by medical personnel at the jail and an ambulance was called to take him to JPS, according to the release.

He became unresponsive when the ambulance arrived, the Sheriff’s Office said. Medics were able to resuscitate the man, but he later was pronounced dead while being treated at the hospital.

The man will be publicly identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, which will conduct an autopsy to determine his cause of death.

The Sheriff’s Office said he was arrested by Fort Worth police on Sept. 10 on multiple felony counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14 and aggravated sexual assault of a child.
