Almost 90 homes without water in Keller after contractor breaks line, city says
Crews have shut down water service to almost 90 properties near Mt. Gilead Road in north Keller after a private contractor working on a telecommunications installation project bored into a 16-inch water line, city officials said.
The affected homes will be without water until the break can be repaired, the city said in a social media post.
The homes are on these 10 streets:
- Clear Brook Drive
- Edgemere Drive
- Hibiscus Drive
- Meadow Creek Drive
- Mt. Gilead Road
- Penny Lane
- Ridgeway Drive
- Rock Springs Drive
- Stegall Drive
- Split Rock Drive
The accident happened Monday afternoon, and the city expected to have an estimate on the timeline for repairs later Tuesday. The Public Works department was able to isolate the break and maintain and stabilize water pressure for the majority of north Keller, the city said.
City officials said they are cautiously optimistic they will be able to repair the existing pipe rather than having to remove and replace about 30 linear feet of infrastructure.
Public Works expanded road closures in the area Tuesday morning, limiting through traffic on Mt. Gilead Road between Bourland Road/Marshall Ridge Parkway and Roanoke Road, according to the post.
The Keller Pointe at 405 Rufe Snow Drive will be open until at least 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, to offer shower facilities to anyone in the impacted area.
Cases of water were also being distributed to homes Tuesday morning.
“While water shutoffs like these are always emergencies, we understand the additional stress created by losing water during the week of a holiday, with children home from school and friends and family coming into town,” the city said. “Please know that we are working diligently to get this problem resolved. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
