Woman arrested in hit-and-run death of 13-year-old boy, Fort Worth police say

A woman accused in the death of a 13-year-old boy in a hit-and-run accident has been arrested, according to Fort Worth Police Department records.

Precious Crosby, 33, faces a charge of collision involving death, and was booked into the city jail Monday morning, according to online jail records.

The victim, 13-year-old Apollo Rogers, was using the crosswalk when a speeding Jeep Cherokee ran a red light and hit him, police have said. He was crossing the street with his sister following an after-school event on Nov. 14. The crash occurred in the 3700 block of Stalcup Road at the intersection with Berry Street in east Fort Worth.

Police said an arrest warrant was issued for Crosby on Nov. 19 as the suspected driver, and she turned herself in at a police station. about 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25.

After the crash, officers found the 2002 white Jeep Cherokee parked in the 1100 block of East Lancaster on the afternoon of Nov. 15, police said in a news release. The vehicle had damage to its front and was taken to a secure holding location to be examined for evidence, police said.

Rogers’ stepmother, Tarena Carter, described him as “helpful, sweet and responsible,” and said that he was interested in pursuing a career in computer science. He was a student at the Young Men’s Leadership Academy.

A GoFundMe for Rogers’ funeral expenses has raised over half of its $12,000 goal.
