You’re either a fake tree or a real tree family.

If you use the same scentless tree year after year, then disregard this article. For those who want their house filled with the smells of a pine tree forest, you may have to go chop down a tree yourself.

However, real Christmas trees don’t last forever. With proper care, they can last up to four or five weeks. Buying your tree the first week of December allows the family to enjoy it up until Christmas Day and maybe even until New Year’s Day.

Better Homes and Garden recommends the following for a long-lasting Christmas tree:

  1. Choosing a tree that is healthy: few brown needles.

  2. Keeping it watered: “Add ½ cup of granulated sugar to 5 gallons of water with ½ cup of vinegar,” suggests Better Home and Garden. Check water levels daily.

  3. Trim the trunk from sap: Sap forms after the tree is cut, so ensure that the sap doesn’t form around the trunk; otherwise, the tree won’t absorb water.

  4. Buy a proper-sized tree stand.

  5. Keep away from heat: excessive warmth can dry out your tree and make it die quickly.

To keep a tree alive, you, of course, need a Christmas tree. These five Fort Worth businesses have real Christmas trees for you and your family to pick out.
