Man involved in standoff with Tarrant deputies died by suicide, medical examiner says
The death of a man who shot a Tarrant sheriff’s deputy in August has been ruled a suicide, according to online records from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The man, identified in court records as 41-year-old Bo William Aurell, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the medical examiner.
Deputies were attempting to serve three felony warrants for Aurell related to a child sexual assault case when police said he shot Deputy Todd Tipton three times in a close-combat gunfight on Aug. 7, the Star-Telegram previously reported.
Aurell then barricaded himself inside his Fort Worth duplex in the 2900 block of Elinor Street, leading to an hourslong SWAT standoff.
The standoff ended when Aurell falsely claimed to be holding hostages and law enforcement breached the home and again exchanged gunfire with the suspect, Fort Worth police said.
Authorities said at the time of the shooting that they were unsure whether Aurell died by suicide or was killed by law enforcement.
Deputy Tipton was treated at John Peter Smith Hospital and released from the hospital later that day.
