Three people died and five were injured in a chain-reaction crash in Richardson late on Halloween night, police said in a news release.

Officers responded to a report of a stalled Cadillac SUV in the southbound HOV lane of North Central Expressway, hear the near the President George Bush Turnpike, at about 11:55 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, according to the department’s release posted on Facebook. The highway is also known as U.S. 75.

Before officers arrived to assist the driver of the Cadillac, a Lexus SUV traveling in the same lane struck the Cadillac from behind, police said. After that crash, a third vehicle, a Dodge sedan, crashed into the back of the Lexus SUV.

At the time of the collisions, officials said, the driver and six passengers of the Cadillac were standing outside of the vehicle.

One passenger of the Cadillac, identified by Richardson police as 19-year-old Alyia Khalid, died at the scene of the accident.

Officials said the driver and four passengers from that vehicle were transferred to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries, and one passenger was not injured.

Both occupants of the Lexus SUV, identified by police as 27-year-old Haley Taylor and her 6-year-old daughter, were transported to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead, police said.

The driver and passenger of the Dodge car were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A Nissan sedan also was struck twice in the incident: once by the Dodge and again by an 18-wheeler as it passed through the crash scene, police said.

No injuries were reported by the drivers of the Nissan or the 18-wheeler, police said.

Two additional vehicles were damaged by debris.

Lanes of the highway were closed to traffic for about nine hours and reopened Friday morning.

The Richardson Police Department’s Special Crash Investigation Team is conducting the investigation, police said.
