Johnson County deputy shot while trying to arrest suspect fleeing Tarrant authorities
A Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy is expected to make a full recovery after he was shot while trying to arrest a suspect fleeing from Tarrant County authorities, according to a news release.
Deputy Austin Reed was shot around 9:30 p.m. Sunday while trying to subdue the suspect, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Johnson County deputies became involved when Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office deputies chased a vehicle into the county, according to the release. The people inside the car ran into a house near Mansfield in Johnson County and local deputies followed, making entry to arrest the driver.
The Sheriff’s Office said it was while Reed was trying to subdue a suspect, who was resisting, that he was shot in the hip. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Texas Rangers, who regularly investigate shootings involving law enforcement, took over the scene and will be leading the investigation.
Authorities identified the suspect as 27-year-old Thomas William Fisher, who was wanted on Tarrant County warrants on charges of forgery of a financial instrument and obstruction of a highway.
The driver was also arrested and other occupants were detained and taken to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
In a separate incident on Monday, Fort Worth police Sgt. Billy Randolph was killed when he was hit by a suspected drunken driver while working at a crash scene on Interstate 35W.
