Is the cooling down of North Texas finally here? Here’s what the weather service says
This may be the weather North Texas has been waiting for after summer heat waves punished Texas for months: A cold front pushing south will drop temperatures in the Dallas-Fort Worth area by this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
“These storms will likely fire over northwest Texas Thursday evening and affect mainly the western Red River counties of North Texas as they move east Thursday night,” according to the NWS website.
Any rain that could come with the cold front “would remain mostly to our east… but its presence should at least provide seasonable temperatures,” the weather service reports.
Temperatures late into the weekend and into next week will see lows in the mid 50s to the low 60s and highs in the 80s.
Fort Worth will continue to see temperatures in the low 90s through Wednesday. Storms are possible late Tuesday and into Wednesday.
“The best storm chances will likely be north of I-20 Tuesday night, and east of I-35 on Wednesday. A few storms may produce quarter sized hail and/or damaging wind gusts,” the NWS reports.
The real cooling down may have to wait until winter when an El Nino weather pattern promises wet and cold conditions for North Texas.
