Has North Texas seen the last of the season’s excessive heat warnings? Here’s what we know
It’s been a scorcher of a summer for North Texas, but could the heat finally be on its way out?
Fort Worth may see temperatures dip back into the 90’s this weekend, and next week may even cool down some more with temperatures in the high 80’s.
“I don’t want to jinx it, but this may be the last excessive heat warning of the year,” a meteorologist at the NWS Fort Worth office wrote. “Fingers crossed!”
An excessive heat warning has been issued by the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office for Thursday until 9 p.m. and will likely be extended into Friday. The criteria for the warning is when the heat index temperature is expected to be 105 degrees or higher for at least two days and nighttime temperatures do not drop below 75 degrees, according to the NWS.
North Texas entered September with a few 90-degree days, but then triple digit heat returned. Thursday and Friday will continue the trend with highs in the mid to upper 100’s in the forecast.
Once North Texas gets into the weekend and next week, cooler weather is on the way:
Thursday
- High: 106 degrees
- Low: 83 degrees
Friday
- High: 108 degrees
- Low: 79 degrees
Saturday
- High: 98 degrees
- Low: 75 degrees
Sunday
- High: 95 degrees
- Low: 74 degrees
Monday
- High: 91 degrees
- Low: 70 degrees

As of Thursday, North Texas has recorded 51 days over triple digits this year, which is fifth all-time for number of 100-degree days for the year. The hottest temperature recorded this year is 110 degrees — on Aug. 25 and 26.
